To Escape Your Scorn
Looking back over the years
But a number of things aren’t quite clear
You were always supposed to be here
I feel like a sailboat that can’t steer,
Sure I had a hint here and there
No two are ever a perfect pair
Sometimes I just sit and stare
Thinking of things I never dared,
Yes, I knew you were a damaged child
Broken enough and just beguiled
I tried to be tender and mild
But you always got so easily riled,
You, the irrational little princess
A cross between an Amazon and Lady Tess
You ended up being an adulteress
Now I enjoy living even less,
I was always containing a potential storm
Just trying to escape your scorn
You lived your life as if war torn
But, I loved you anyway like my first born,
They say broken people do broken things
Some make a collection of wedding rings
Some look at life like a prolonged bee sting
Then there are those lost souls who cling,
You lacked self-awareness my Darling
And you led me by the nose on a string
Robbed our future together with a fling
Now I rarely hear the birds sing,
Forgiveness is not a product of mankind
We seem to destroy everything we find
Rejecting honey for the bitter rind
Love becomes a death warrant signed.
