To Exist Outside of Time
Living in the past how long can this last?
You effortlessly moved on while I stood aghast
Only fools memorize like each sunrise
Sentimental watery eyed,
This world is a paradise made
For those who love to perpetrate charades
Rolling over lovers like a swamp buggy in the everglades
Be careful of the debts you’ll have to pay,
Remembering sunshine how it felt so fine
How it left those wonderful tan lines
On your body so sublime
If only I could exist outside of time,
I’d rescue my mind from this bittersweet rhyme
If only I could wash off the grime
Was loving you such a crime?
To you it isn’t worth a dime,
Sometimes I end up crying,
I spent too much of my life trying
Right now I’m just sighing
Why did I bother complying?
Life is just a trip through a menagerie
Try to treat the animals tenderly
Women take no prisoners I agree,
Seems an injustice that goes on through eternity,
This paradise made for greedy fools
While they target Cherub eyed jewels
Easy meat and the perfect tools
The burden fitting on the backs of mules,
I have a forecast for you
This much will be true
That good weather won’t last
For a heart made from a plaster cast.
