Foreign Office ‘hosts event celebrating the hijab’ whilst Iranian women fight against oppression

Women across Iran are being arrested for taking it off.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has reportedly hosted an event celebrating the hijab, calling it liberating and even handing out free headscarves for anyone who wanted to give it a go.

This is a bit of a contrast to what’s going on in Iran at the moment, where women are literally being locked in prison for daring to remove the hijab, which they see as a sign of oppression. Some women are even burning the hijab.

Women who fail to observe the Islamic dress code in Iran can be jailed for up to two months or fined about $100. But it’s a free choice. And it’s not oppression, obviously.

Breitbart, who ran the original article, claim the FCO essentially tried to cover the whole thing up by refusing to answer their simple yes or no question.

It seems inconceivable that the British government would allegedly choose to host an event that celebrates women being forced to wear an item of clothing, let alone bracket it as #StrongInHijab or ‘liberation’. Madness.
