Spokesperson for Wollongong Against Corruption Paul Matters said: “Wollongong has unfortunately had a long history of Cover Ups involving criminal allegations against those holding Local and State Govt positions. We demand a Judicial Inquiry into all complaints received that involve former Lord Mayor and Police Minister David Campbell and other political and business leaders in our City that have not been thoroughly investigated.” Matters said “We are aware that at times the victims have not even been given the opportunity to provide formal statements to Police and have been isolated, alone and denied justice. As the Wood Royal Commission discovered; past political leaders were never even interviewed by the Police and the victims were never given justice or support. WAC is determined to change that and invites anyone affected or with information to contact them in confidence.” Matters added “What we don’t need, and what the victims don’t need, is another cover up. In these circumstances of chronic political corruption in NSW it is not appropriate that a police integrity body investigate these most serious issues. We need nothing less than a Royal Commission. The Kenneally government is terminal and we call on the NSW Opposition Leader Barry O'Farrell to make an unequivocal commitment to establish a Royal Commission into political corruption and criminality in NSW on becoming Premier of NSW. We have waited a long time for justice in Wollongong. We can wait another nine months. ”
