At least 14 people including 10 suspected Taliban militants have been killed after the US-led NATO military forces launched a nightly airstrike against a residential area in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Ghazni, Press TV reports.
Mohammad Qasim Dasiwal, governor of the Ander district in the province, said on Friday the raid was carried out late on Thursday.
He added that at least 4 Afghan civilians were also slain in the attack.
Dasiwal further noted that two Afghan children, a young girl and a woman were killed in the airstrike.
The pre-dawn attacks on civilian houses have been a source of tension in Kabul's ties with Washington and NATO, with the Afghan side repeatedly calling for an end to the controversial operations.
Afghan authorities have frequently criticized US-led raids against civilians and have launched investigations into such incidents and the witnesses' accounts.
Afghan tribal leaders also accuse US-led foreign troops of storming Afghan people’s homes and taking them to unknown places without coordination with local authorities.
The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001 on the pretext of combating terrorism.
The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but years into the invasion, insecurity continues to rise across the country.
