In the span of just three weeks, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has decided to deregulate three new GMO crops, despite opposition from legions of concerned scientists, farmers and consumers. First, the USDA lifted all restrictions on Roundup Ready alfalfa, a primary livestock feed crop. Next, they decided to allow farmers to plant Roundup Ready sugar beets, in the name of preventing a U.S. sugar shortage. And now, they’ve given farmers the go-ahead to plant a type of GMO corn designed to yield more ethanol for biofuel production
