Waking Nightmare of Today

Looking back into an unchangeable past

Don't know how long this all will last

I fell into an ocean way too vast

The script to a life I was mistakenly cast,

This crime scene that I left too soon

The outline of a body illuminated by the moon

A future where disaster seems to loom

The shadows of her eyes seemed to foretell doom,

The truth seems to hide no matter how hard we try to exhume

For love there never seems to be enough room

Man is always prepared to accept ruin

Yet I can still sing this tune,

Standing at the foot of this rabbit hole

Hoping it won’t steal my soul

The ring of a magic crystal bowl

Time will always take its toll,

Forever meant to be together

Then comes the storm to a feather

Invisible hands comb a field of heather

Feeling a little under the weather,

Twisted words spoken from an alien tongue

The pledge of allegiance used to be sung

Where Christmas lights were once strung

That last bitter divorce really stung,

Living in a land where truth is redefined

Honesty will likely get you maligned

Where honorable men are asked to resign

Where patriots find themselves confined,

If only I could see you now

Lost like some kind of wayward cow

The betrayal just doesn’t seem real somehow

Won’t change the fact that I’m alone anyhow,

I dreamed the clock began turning backward

The lines between fiction and reality blurred

Destiny was not easily mastered

As the zombies in their graves stirred,

Not sure about anything anymore

Visions through Aldous Huxley’s door

Many things the future has in store

There they laid passed out on the floor,

The waking nightmare of today

You could swear sanity is out to play

It’s a shame to lose my rights this way
