With our nemesis, China, known to be preparing for a massive cyber-attack, most likely on a defensive scale, Iran on the move, Russia decimating Ukraine, North Korea launching their missiles again, and threatening South Korea, we can be assured that very little good will be extended to America. As a matter of fact, North Korea recently denied talks with the US State Department. So, let’s pursue the question, what action will be taken by the federal government in the event of a massive strike that blacks out massive regions of the zone domestic US?

Preparedness? No

If you think that the federal government’s prerogative is to protect the people, think again. The main priority of the federal government will be to perpetuate itself! If you think that is too cynical a point of view consider that for more than 20 years advocates within the Department of Defense have been trying to get legislation passed to harden or coat all wiring and cables used for communications so as to resist the effects of an electromagnetic pulse capable of sending us back into the stone age. This could be as easy as merely exploding a nuclear device in orbit over the US. The ionizing effect would neutralize all signal transmission and reception.

Do they really care?

If the feds were so concerned about the survival of their citizens wouldn’t hardening of all electrical wiring be a monumental priority? It sure would create more jobs! Yet, nope, just not a concern for those on the Hill. So, what forms of survival would the federal government, state governments, and major military installations have? Little do most people know that besides the deep underground bunkers available to the Congress, Senate, and Executive branches of the federal government as well as Air Force One being able to lift off and remain in the air as ground assaults continue, there are other asylums from the ground war that would be taking place. There are a number of secret but strategically located sites throughout the US that serve as airstrips and supply depots. Air Force One simply lands loads up and gets airborne again.

What the government has available to itself

These are known as safe harbors where Air Force One could land and re-supply if needed. They sit guarded but left unattended for the most part. I know someone who was hunting in an area in the DFW area region when he and his partner stumbled upon what they thought was a public wooded area for hunting that was until several heavily armed tactical soldiers came from out of the bushes and told them to leave immediately. That was when one of the men in question later got a geo location satellite map of the area and discovered what it was actually being used for. Abandoned air bases, as well as old federal administration structures used as temporary troop housing would be utilized as well.

Who lives and who dies?

As the chaos of urban warfare, civil war, and damage from nuke strikes rain terror down upon the land, you can bet that command and control would be on top of making sure its own survival was kept intact. As civilians left to their own limited resources languish in underground parking lots, their own basements, some in their self-made shelters, a new era of blacked out communications with no electricity at all, no potable water, no heating, no air conditioning, or plumbing at all thousands if not millions would die very soon depending on how much help local authorities could scrape together such as police, sheriffs, Red Cross, or the National Guard, but in all likelihood they would be held in check by the house to house fighting and radioactivity. It is a grim picture painted by the glimpse we get from other war torn regions of the world who seem to remain in a perpetual state of fighting living amongst the rubble and the stench of death!

In the final analysis

Is it necessary that a command and control structure remain intact in light of this failure by the government to defend our land, they’ve already failed at defending our borders? Yes, in order that some chance of organized recovery take place, the answer would be yes, but how much of it would be an unfair system for only those well connected enough to qualify for such a protected existence as millions most likely die from exposure, starvation, violence, injury, disease, lack of medical availability, and the effects of war begun by foreign invaders?
