Whatever Happened?

I was never meant to live alone

Devoid of togetherness and windblown

Living among those with hearts cold as stone

Oh how strange the world has grown,

Staring out my window like a household cat

Excuse me but the state of things has left me quite flat

Living in a land where I feel ostracized like an expat

Surrounded by cowards afraid to step up to bat,

I’m living within a hostile climate

Where my views are to be kept quiet

Rather than tell the truth they’d rather deny it

There’s no real happiness unless you buy it,

Spiritual advancement in an age of instrumental dependency

Let your device do the thinking on the right frequency

Whatever happened to true love commitment and fidelity?

Oh for the dignity of burial at sea,

One day fades into the next and then

Can’t remember being loved since way back when

There’s always a new possibility just around the next bend

Dear Jesus I can always pretend,

There’s an advanced propulsion rocket leaving tonight

It’ll be flying high into the atmosphere and out of sight

I’ll get me a ticket I’ll take the damn flight

Leaving all my past regrets will that ease my plight?

If somehow it happens I’m lost in space

There’ll be no great sorrow felt by the human race

Just a lonely fool tired of the race

Unwilling to deal with the insanity not leaving a trace.
