Premature Burial

No bad dream, or nightmare could ever be as bad as this

Freezing darkness - a cataleptic fit

Words he wants to utter shall never pass his lips

‘Till he wakes up in confinement and the scream begins

The claustrophobic tension of the coffin of this rhyme

Was nailed in with gratuity, a reflection of the times

The rhyme is but a symptom of a greater truth

A truth we ought to utter but we shall never prove

‘Till we wake up in our lifetime and the scream begins

Above, the air is cool

Pale sky burning red at the edge of the world

As the crow says “goodnight” and the dark cedar shade

Hides the brightest part

From the rat on the grave

What gives them the right to take away/undermine our freedom?

What gives them the right to take away our rights?

A slow erosion over years of every value we hold dear

And we can’t stay calm in the thickening of fear.

In divided nations it’s not hard

To break the weaker branches in half

Before their cries of outrage start

You subjugate the weaker hearts

With promises you never keep

And laws to make the angels weep,

Lies to hide the rot inside

Your Ivory which towers high:

Though you still sit on the grave

With all your greed you have betrayed

Those you hear deep underneath

Whose muffled screams are those of need

In panic as freedom’s buried alive

And at long last they realise.

Above, the air is cool

Pale sky burning red at the edge of the world

As the crow says “goodnight” and the dark cedar shade

Hides the brightest part

From the rat on the grave

If the claustrophobic tension of the coffin of this rhyme

Was nailed in with gratuity, vibrating with the times

The rhyme is but a symptom of a greater truth

A truth we ought to utter that we shall never prove

That we shall never prove

That we shall never prove

That we shall never prove
