Won’t Let Go
Memories of the past as cold as new fallen snow
But I’m not letting go not letting go
The mistakes and triumphs that haunt your soul
Those events that wounded you and took their toll,
They say forget the past and move on
I’m just trying not to repeat the past or be a pawn
Still the voices call me at the gates of dawn
Those wars that left lines on the map redrawn,
Those sins and good deeds so long gone
As the impatient ones urge you to move along
Hey! This is my song, my personal song
Those who can easily forget what they did wrong,
The past becomes the teacher if you bother
Whether you were a mother or a father
No saints among us sometimes we were improper
Give thanks you’re not living in squalor,
I won’t let go, no I won’t let glow
Those moments of love that left me aglow
The seed of the past that we all sow
The victories and defeats just so you’ll know,
All those treasures put aside so long ago
No I’m not letting go, not letting go
Sometimes life seems like a stage show
Meaningless bromides like, “Go with the flow,”
I’m not letting go, no I’m not letting go
No matter how bitter the pill to swallow
I had my dreams though I sometimes feel hollow
Some of us choose to lead while others follow.
