I know that sheer lack of education, "dumbed down" and lack of "critical thinking" skills are big parts of how things happen. But if there were a way to measure how much a person wants to arrive at an objective truth or understanding (vs.merely winning the debate) factoring in the variables of amount of resources people are willing to put into it and willingness to constantly put their positions up to challenge- we'd see that alot of people just don't really care all that much. I don't think Americans are stupid. We just have the luxury of not caring.

In a sense, Al Qaeda is really IS.

Take a walk through rural West Virginia, or drive through some of the slightly obscure parts of the southern states, and you'll find the same idiots, just with a different accent and manner of dress. I would be willing to wager that close to 1/4 of the 22 million plus that voted for Obama, would believe Al Qaeda has a lunar base made of cheese.
