Same as in your country kiddo, just amass information and codify stuff so that the governing party will not be caught in the dark when something crops up. All governments do it through their police and military. Some places it's overt and in your face, (communist China, the old U.S.S.R., Burma, oops Myamar, and most of the middle east), while in your country, Canada, and the U.K. it's smiley face, for your safety and cuddly. Pick up any good reference book on covert ops. conducted within North America in the last 100 years and you will see a close tie in with the military intell. community and the law enforcement communities whether they be federal, state/provincial, county, and or a municipal policing agency.
I'm an old guy who knows enough to know that very little of what m.s.m. tells us is a poor reflection of what actually transpired or is transpiring.
Been there, done that, and got the tee shirt so I think I can speak honestly about it.
Any day you get up and look at yourself in the mirror and know that the day before you did the right thing is the only way to go through life.
Just pleased that I can still do that.
By the way did you get the Scorpians with the Berlin Philormonic yet?
Adios amiga.

What is the ultimate destination for the info that was collected on the different organizations Doug?

In Canada this was, and has been going on since at least the 1930's. The R.C.M.P. infiltrated and kept tabs on the Canadian Communist party during the depression, while I know from my own personal experiences as a police officer in Toronto from the early 70's to the turn of the centrury that we along with the R.C.M.P. and the O.P.P. activly infiltrated almost every political fringe group or non 'conformist' organization. All fact no brag.
