Melinda - It was either Enoch Powell or Sir Oswald Mosely (think it was Mosely) who said that the reason he didn't come to rule England was that people still had jobs. That's what it takes, and that's why Hitler won in Germany, and Mussolini in Italy. People were out of work. They have to be hit with a sledgehammer between the eyes. That's why they've been very careful to only unemploy segments of the US population. Auto workers, small-scale farmers, etc.

You get people fired up by giving them the means to save their home from foreclosure. Or an amazing price on a new television. Or health care they can afford which includes pre-existing conditions they will not lose along with their job.
