The problem here is not that McCain made the recording. Under torture, a lot of POWs made recordings. Under US torture, a lot of Iraqis claimed to know where Saddam's nuclear weapons were hidden, which turned out not to exist.
The problem is that McCain claimed he had refused to make recordings, was awarded the Silver Star for his "heroism" and built his entire political career on that lie.
In looking at the special treatment accorded McCain over other returned POWs it should be remembered that McCain's father, Admiral McCain, was in charge of the US cover-up of Israel's attack on the USS Liberty.
