I was reading one of John Brunner's novels in '79, I think it was Shockwave Rider. He described a computer program that could produce an audio output of a fugue played by the instruments of a Dixieland Jazz band. Ever since, I've been wondering when they would get around to this type of thing.

From Wiki: Brunner is credited with coining the term "worm" and predicting the emergence of computer viruses[3] in his 1975 novel The Shockwave Rider, in which he used the term to describe software which reproduces itself across a computer network. Brunner's work has also been credited for prefiguring modern developments such as genetic engineering, same-sex marriage, online encyclopedias, the legalization of cannabis, and the development of Viagra.[4]
