In Japan, a worker from the clean-up crew at the
destroyed Fukushima nuclear power plant came
forward on behalf of his fellow crew members to
criticize TEPCO, the owner of the destroyed nuclear
plant.
He said, "The myth of infallible safety has changed
to despair...I was an accomplice in this safety myth.
This is a way to carry out my responsibility and my
way to make atonement to those people who can no
longer live in their village. One day - one day, we're
going to return them there."
The nuclear plant workers fear that the lessons learned
here will be forgotten and that people need to realize
that the problems from the crippled facility are far from
over and that a very real danger remains.
This is the first televised report of what's happening
at the Fukushima plant that we've seen in a while.
Also today, the UK Guardian reported on the release of
80 emails that were described as "Orwellian," showing
that in the days after the Fukushima accident, "Not one
but two [UK] government departments were working with
nuclear companies to spin one of the biggest industrial
catastrophes of the last 50 years, even as people were
dying and a vast area was being made uninhabitable
for generations."
