Police Officer Shot At In Oakdale, California - SWAT Team Called To The Scene

This evening at around 5:00 p.m. officers with the Oakdale Police Department were called to the neighborhood surrounding Oakdale High School in Oakdale, Cali.fornia for reports of two suspicious men in the neighborhood.

When officers arrived they found a shotgun on the ground in an alley where the men were last seen. The shotgun was wrapped up in a sleeping bag. Additional officers were called to the scene as they continued to look for the suspects.

An officer noticed two men matching the description walking in the neighborhood minutes later. When the officer approached the men one of the suspects fired one shot from a handgun at the officer before both suspects took off running in opposite directions. The officer was not hit by the bullet and did not return fire.

Although no one was injured during the shooting a miscommunication was broadcasted to surrounding law enforcement agencies stating that an officer had been shot. Because of that broadcast dozens of extra officers from several agencies came to the scene to offer assistance.

Two search teams were formed to look for the suspects in the two separate directions they were last seen. One suspect was captured without further incident during the search. The suspect that was captured was identified as the suspect who shot at the officer. Police are still looking for the second suspect in a neighborhood just west of Oakdale High School with the assistance of the Modesto Police Department SWAT Team, K-9 Teams, and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Helicopter.

In addition to the suspect and first shotgun, officers indicated that they have found several guns on the ground throughout the search and that they believe the guns were just stolen from a house in the neighborhood.

Modesto News .org went to the scene in order to bring you this footage of the incident along with footage from a press conference with Chief Lester Jenkins of the Oakdale Police Department.

So what? - these guys were out stealing guns? - The cop being interviewed said that the suspects (only two of them) discarded 6 guns - that they have since recovered...so far.
