This is a great video that speaks to the problem specifically.

I've closed my bank accounts, some time ago and no longer use a bank.

That's the first step. I received nothing but flack from 12.160 members when I posted an article about just that several months ago, that it would be too difficult, too cumbersome to pay bills without a checking account. Well, it is different and does come with some hurdles but it isn't terribly difficult in the end, it's a matter of rethinking. I am a rebel at heart and even if no one else follows my lead I'll still take that lead.

I do not believe that allowing a bank to hold my funds, as little as they may be in the scheme of things, benefits me in any way at all and in fact it endangers me.
