Cory Maye had been sentenced to death and served 10 years in prison after a tragic no-knock raid aimed at a known drug dealer who shared the other half of the building. Maye's case became nationally known with the help of several journalists, but it took years of hard investigative and legal work to defend his innocence. Today Maye is a free man but Ben Vernia, his attorney, says that there are thousands of innocent Americans behind bars who become victims of the mindless war on drugs coupled together with racial and class stereotypes.
