The (2nd) battle group he is referring too is for just what he said, to show China that USA stands behind its ally in Japan. It would not be a full world war without China involved.

So that is 6 battle groups, 3 near Syria, 3 near Japan. When you look at it that way war seems to be even more inevitable that a war is looming. Scarey times.
