Record-Setting Snow Storm Hits Black Hills Hard
Because officials closed Interstate 90 for much of the weekend, many were stranded in Murdo, South Dakota.
At least 200 semis were stuck waiting out the storm in the town. All of the motels were full and people were even sleeping in their cars. The Murdo gym was also open for people to stay in, with cots available to sleep on.
Although those stranded wanted I-90 to reopen as soon as possible, it took Department of Transportation crews until Sunday to get the drifts cleared off the Interstate.
If you traveled on I-90 once it reopened, you’d see a lot of cattle stuck in snow drifts. Those animals likely wondered off when the storm hit and got stuck in the high drifts.
