When interviewing David Paulides, former Detective and State Investigator, for California, and author of the 411 Book Series about missing people in national forests of the US, Canada, and even Australia, we are faced with bizarre common denominators! You would think that the government would want to reveal what there could be that they know about these numerous disappearances that seem to have no logical explanations, but according to Paulides, regardless of the FOIA requests there is evidence they are stonewalling over what they do know!

There are 52 cluster regions with the US alone of areas where frequent vanishings of park visitors and even people in small towns being hoovered up by forces unknown that simply go unexplained. From the hiker who pulls up to the trail head for an hour or two to blow off steam, to a camper who has purchased a permit and plans a week or more in the National Forest, and no matter how fit and experienced these victims are, the darkened cloak of mysterious vanishing will descend upon the hapless and unsuspecting. Police, athletes, veteran fire fighters, and hunters familiar with the terrain come up missing just as often as the novice who can barely keep themselves from getting injured all end up gone never to return.

Of the 52 Cluster Regions of missing persons, the majority are in the Pacific Northwest along the coastal states way up into Canada and stretching out to British Columbia. In the US along the national forests and nature preserves along the eastern coast it seems there are more people going missing! Boulder fields, and the presence of granite mountain slopes seem to be the site of frequent disappearances as opposed to few other commonalities. Of all the national forests around the world Yosemite National Park stands out above the rest with people who are lucky enough not to disappear experiencing changing features of the land that cause confusion, and may lead to hikers getting lost as if through the parallel porthole of another dimension! Strangely enough as we search the center of the North American continent and the Midwest inexplicable cases of missing persons drop off in frequency drastically!

David Paulides is constantly sending out queries to sheriff’s departments, state trooper offices, and park rangers asking for details on particular disappearance cases. One thing they warn David not to do is to contact the families of the victims in person as this does not bode well for the investigator or those who have lost a loved one and feel as though they are being exploited or that they have to re-experience their loss all over again. Paulides agrees that few of these survivor family members have been amenable to cooperating with an interviewer, only a few have been willing.

Even places named after Satan too prove to be challenging and mysterious regions marked by those who never return! Of course, one reason for the names is the dangerous topography that causes fatal falls or injuries much less being lost and dying of exposure, so could this be coincidental, yes, to a certain degree but when there is a consistent pattern over a long period of time? One must surely wonder.
