Breaking: Panic at Tucson Arizona Air Force base - on lockdown, reports of gunman on premises

Officials confirm man with gun 'holed up' in D-M building‎

TUCSON (NBC) - US officials confirm reports that a man carrying what appeared to be a gun entered a building at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson this afternoon forcing a lockdown at the base. They also confirm that the man is "holed-up" inside a building, apparently alone while security officials are attempting to talk to him.
The officials also confirm that an FBI team was dispatched to the base, but could not provide details as to why or what specifically they're doing.

There were unconfirmed reports that it appeared the man was carrying an M-16.

Air Force officials stress that whatever weapon the man may have no shots have been fired and no one has been injured.

TUCSON, Ariz.—An Air Force base was rattled Friday after a report of a man with a gun prompted panic and accounts that someone had been shot at the sprawling facility on the edge of Tucson.

Traffic into and out of the base was being limited because of an unspecified security situation, but no one was shot or hurt, according to the public affairs office at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

The scare apparently was prompted by reports of someone with something that looked like a weapon, said Tech Sgt. Russ Martin. The reports haven't been confirmed, Martin said.

"So the base is going into crisis action mode. We're just locking down the base for the safety and security of the people on Davis-Monthan," he said.

A military official said a special agent on the base reported that an armed individual walked into a building on the base on the outskirts of the southern Arizona city, where earlier this year a gunman gravely wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed six people.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.

The officials also confirm that an FBI team was dispatched to the base, but could not provide details as to why or what specifically they're doing.

D-M: No suspect, no weapon found

06:19 PM

TUCSON - D-M Official Col. Cherrey confirmed that after an extensive search of the base, no suspect and no weapon were found after a five-hour security lockdown of the base.

At around 11 a.m. this morning, there were reports of a suspicious individual potentially carrying a gun on the base.

"Increased security measures were taken around the base following the unconfirmed sighting of a man entering an office building apparently armed," D-M officials stated in a news release.

"All reports regarding the safety and security of our Airmen and their families are taken seriously and we will continue to work to keep them secure," said Col. John Cherrey, 355th Fighter Wing commander.

Tucson Police SWAT members, hostage negotiators, and a bomb squad were dispatched and were on stand-by for much of the day.

Students at the base's two schools were in lockdown, and after the lockdown was lifted, students and personnel were gradually released.

D-M: 'Security incident response terminated'

04:54 PM

TUCSON - According to Davis Monthan officials, the response to the potential security threat has been terminated, the base lockdown has been lifted, and personnel are being released in a controlled fashion.

The following is an unedited press release from Davis Monthan Air Force Base:

Base officials have terminated the response to a potential security incident that began at 11 a.m. today.

Increased security measures were taken around the base following the unconfirmed sighting of a man entering an office building apparently armed.

Base officials are currently executing a controlled release of base personnel.

Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel, Tucson Police and Fire Departments as well as other emergency services personnel provided support to D-M personnel as they worked to investigate the situation.

With the help of the Tucson emergency services communities, Airmen were successful in maintaining the safety and security of the Desert Lightning Team.

"All reports regarding the safety and security of our Airmen and their families are taken seriously and we will continue to work to keep them secure," said Col. John Cherrey, 355th Fighter Wing commander.

Information release of the ongoing operations were restricted to prevent the suspect from seeing or knowing what measures were being taken.

A statement will be made by Col. Cherrey at 6 p.m regarding the incident.

Media should be in place at the Craycroft Gate Visitor Center at 5:40 p.m.

Thank you for posting a proper response.
This is figurable. The Govmt loves it's citizens as much as God loves satan and seems to think we are much more gullable. In any other circumstance, some special forces or a tactical team would have raked this dude in minutes. Oh, but then the team might be raked as SEAL team 6 was in the Chinnok chopper to die with the truth of no Bin Laden "truth" either. We are, as a citizenry, mushrooms kept in the dark and fed bullshit. Cheers! Jimmythadrummer.

@ Chuck Davis.   Anthony Kimbrough.  jimmy roden.   James Φοίνιξ.

business as usual. we know the cards dealt to us. only threw unity can we surpass our division. they are waking up. but i'm not sure if in the rite direction. you can see in current movies how they point out the christians, watch the movie "paul" its funny. but .........

A  lunitic  with  a  gun!!!  There  is  more  to  this  story  than  what's  being  told.

Perhaps the problem at Tucson is just another PRS and they are using it to gain even more control of guns and citizens.

By now every 12160er should know what a PRS is. If not ,I'll spill the beans, "Problem P,,, Reaction R ,,,SolutionS   " and is the way the Governemnt gets its way over and above the needs or will of the people.

Problem Reaction Solution is a evil methode to control us that we do not need to have thrown at us eveyy day.

Run  where?????  You  can't  run  and  you  can't  hide  -  one  way  or  another  they  will  find  us!!!   Keep  in shape  though  because  your  gona  need  your  health  for  what  they  "Throw"  at  us....
