Britain risks ‘sleepwalking into a surveillance state’ – CCTV watchdog

The UK has too many CCTV cameras and the public is ignorant of the true extent of snooping, the government’s surveillance tsar has warned.

Tony Porter, the UK’s Surveillance Camera Commissioner, said many of Britain’s millions of cameras are useless when it comes to combating crime.

In a biting critique, he said Europeans are shocked the British public readily accepts the number of cameras we have, adding we need a public debate and greater regulation.

Is this headline from 2005 or 2015?

These criticisms and warnings were being made over 10 years ago!!!

Which planet has Tony Porter been living on in the past decade?

No doubt there will be some convenient 'event' in the coming weeks to justify the UK's CCTV panopticon surveillance system in the light of Porter's comments.

Any debate/plebicite will be controlled opposition and will accomplish nothing (as intended) as is only being raised as an issue as a safety valve, and to try to quash the concerns of those aware in the British public, in the MSM.

And to think it comes in the light of this announcement, which has been hinted at contionously over the past decade - http://12160.info/profiles/blogs/plan-to-remotely-control-vehicles-...

You are absolutely right but everything goes around in a circle :-). I think i have posted at least 4 or 5 of articles with almost exact same headline...but unfortunately it still seems it's going the wrong way.

I can almost watch em growing by the numbers day by day and they also put up other weird devices in cell phone towers and on rooftops.

But then again it's my personal belief than no one since the mid 60's has been able to make a private phone call so it's only 'natural' to tighten the screw even more.

I remember as a kid...the phone ringing then picking it up only to receive what seemed to be communication between several military aircraft and ground control and that's only one of many instances.

I also have at least 3 other examples i clearly remember where you could listen to swedes having a conversation parallel with your own conversation. But it seemed they couldn't hear us but we could easily hear them.

But all in all before the cell phone became the norm i can even count the numbers of times such occurrences happened.
