Danish Police: 3672 Pieces of Bombshell Fireworks Stolen, Might Be Used In A Terror Plot
The police rings the alarm after two burglaries have been committed at a larger fireworks warehouse near the city of Holbæk.
There were both cake-boxes and bombshells (chrysanthemum bombs) at the warehouse, and according to the Central and West Zealand Police, more than 3500 air bombs were stolen during the two burglaries.
"They're really dangerous and there are a lot of chrysanthemums that's missing. It's more than 3500, so it's really something very risky, says Carsten Andersen from Central and West Zealand's Politics, to TV East.
According to sn.dk, the police say that a total of 51 boxes were stolen each containing 72 so-called bombshells. So that's exactly 3672.
The police dares not rule out that the two burglaries is terror-related.
"We have no evidence at all to say why they have been stolen. They might have been stolen because they want to sell them. They might have been stolen for personal use. We simply do not know, says Carsten Andersen to TV 2.
No suspects
It's in a former military bunker in a forest where the burglary happened, and the police still have no suspects in the case.
- We have no precise bid on who committed this theft, but there is no doubt that it's someone with knowledge of the area. It's not just a place you just pass by. And it's not something that you can just remove straight away. It has probably required a few vans to remove it all, says Carsten Andersen to TV 2.
First theft, three to four boxes of fireworks were stolen. It was discovered on June 2nd and was not reported to the police.
The door of the warehouse had been repaired, but a few days later it was broken up and large quantities of dangerous fireworks were gone, first then the two burglarieswere reported to the police on Monday.
According to the police, there's such a large quantity of fireworks that it takes two vans to transport it.
In particular, the bombshells is dangerous in the hands of the uninformed. Often you have heard of how bombshells have exploded in the hands of people and they can be fatal.
New Year's Eve in 2015, three men lost their lives in two fireworks accidents in Mariager and Hobro. In both cases bombshells were used.
