A shooting has been reported at the US military base at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, where several people have been injured and one person has been reported dead.

At least one person died after the shooting. Multiple outlets confirmed that one shooter had been “neutralized,” although Shimon Prokupecz of CNN reported that the gunman was dead of a self-inflicted wound.

There had been multiple reports of a second shooter, though a US military official confirmed to KCEN-TV that the shooter who had been eliminated as a threat was acting alone.

As many as eight people have reportedly been hospitalized, four were believed to be in critical condition.

Fort Hood’s official Twitter page warned all people in the area to remain sheltered in place, an indication that the shooter is still active.

All personnel on post are asked to shelter in place.

The gunman was believed to be inside the Medical Support Building, the suspect could be barricaded inside that area.

David Ross, a Fort Hood official, told The Washington Post that the base is “completely sealed” and that every building is being investigated.

“There is a confirmed shooting that occurred,” he said. “We’re still trying to identify what we have.”
