Portland School Teachers Given “Social Justice” Guides – Praising Islam, Che Guevara, Black Panthers

Teachers in Portland Public Schools are being given a teaching guide called “Planning to Change The World – A Plan Book For Social Justice Teachers.” At $18.00 a piece, with 3500 teachers, well, you can do the math to see how much money they’re spending just on this planning book.

This planning book, published by Rethinking Schools, includes all of the wackjobbery that one would expect and more.

They praise Che Guevara, feature Black Panther founders, promote islam, and several communist sympathizing mentions.

There’s even a section to help teachers to stop using offensive and oppressive terms such as “boy” or “girl” in an effort to be more sensitive to trans and gender non-conforming students. These are designed to cater to kids as young as 5 years old.

The planners feature anniversaries and special dates that can serve as instructional guides for the classroom. Here are some selections from the planner (click on images to enlarge):

They start off by paying homage to PETA founder Alexander Fernando Pacheco, and teachers are encouraged to ask students how they feel about using animals in science experiments.

Then they launch right into promoting islam, by specifically mentioning the muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

Then they take a quote from activist Pervez Musharraf: “Islam teaches tolerance, not hatred; universal brotherhood, not enmity; peace, and not violence,” while also asking students to ponder what eco-feminism is.

To end August, they feature Black Panther founder Fred Hampton’s birthday and a quote from him.

As September starts, they celebrate the anniversary of the founding of North Korea.

In what should come as no surprise to anyone who follows extreme leftist organizations, for September 11th, they make no mention of terrorist attacks. But they do list the islamic holiday of Muharram starting on September 11th.

But fear not, they at least give a shout out to World Car-Free Day for September 22nd.

They feature Che Guevara in one of the quotes.

They also feature a quote from Roger Alvarado, a member of the Third World Liberation Front, which was a series of violent student protests in California in the 1960’s.

They also ask students to ponder why they should quit school. For some reason.

They celebrate the founding of Palestine.

They refer to Thanksgiving as the “National Day of Mourning” and encourage people to not buy anything on Black Friday, while also featuring transgender actress Laverne Cox.

They celebrate the anniversary of the El Congreso del Pueblos de Habla Espanola, which was an organization linked to communist sympathizers.

Most people reading this article know what December 7th is. But instead of honoring those who lost their lives in the Pearl Harbor attack, this teacher’s guide celebrates the birth of Noam Chomsky.

Giving credit where credit is due, at least they mention Christmas. But notice it’s in a thinner type font than everything else. Including Kwanzaa. Yes, Kwanzaa gets bold type font and Christmas doesn’t.

The planner takes a new year’s break to address how teachers should stop saying “boys and girls” because it offends transgender students. All three of them.

They then go on to honor yet another Black Panther.

Another Black Panther, Angela Davis, also gets a shout out. Davis had purchased guns that were used in a courthouse shoot out in the 1960’s. She was also a member of the Communist Party and had visited Cuba, the USSR, and East Germany.

They celebrate the founding of Iran as an islamic republic. Or maybe that’s just an April fool’s joke?

They make special mention of the Association Of Raza Educators conference in L.A.

For April, they encourage students to “demand gun control.”

Of course they celebrate Roe v. Wade.

Cinco de Mayo gets bold font, but Christmas and Easter don’t.

They ask students to ponder the difference between a “riot” and a “rebellion.”

To celebrate July 4th, they quote a Sioux author “The White man must no longer project his fears and insecurities onto other groups, races and countries. Before the White man can relate to others he must forgo the pleasure of defining them.”

Toward the end of the planner, they feature ads for other publications featuring more of the same far left lunacy. Those greedy capitalists trying to peddle their books and magazines. In fact, you can purchase your own PDF version of this very planner for $10.

The planners end with a set of certificates that teachers are encouraged to award students. One such award features a quote from Assata Shakur, a violent Black Panther activist who escaped from prison and fled to Cuba in the 1970’s after murdering a police officer in New Jersey. She is now one of the FBI’s most wanted and there is a $2 Million reward for her capture.

So this is what your education tax dollars are going toward.

You can reach Portland Public Schools superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero at (503) 916-3200.
