PREDICTION: If Iran is not destroyed, Iran will own space.

PREDICTION: If Iran is not destroyed, Iran will own space.

Iran is making rocket thrusters far far, (and I mean by inexplicable orders of magnitude) cheaper than anyone else, and their rockets are very reliable. Iran has just opened a space port that complies with all international standards for contract delivery of satellites, and celebrated the opening with a successful test launch of a new rocket that can put a 550 pound satellite into orbit 500 kilometers up.

I would be willing to bet that there will be MANY MANY customers seeking out satellite launches for 1/10th the cost of anything else available. Maybe the sanctions will hold, but I sort of doubt it.

Iran has based much of it's national defense on ultra cheap long range missiles. They have well over 100, 000 powerful long range missiles. Their missiles are so accurate that recently they nailed ISIS headquarters in Syria with 6 direct hits (this was a huge but well buried news event approximately two months ago) that was done in retailation for an ISIS attack on Iranian government buildings. The attack was so effective and so unexpected that the CIA has so far not tried attacking Iran again, and their missile hits basically amounted to a decapitation strike that greatly contributed to the downfall of ISIS in Syria. All missiles fired scored direct hits on exact buildings with very large warheads.

So yeah, I'd risk an expensive satellite on an Iranian launch, because the Iranians have tons of experience with powerful rockets, plus well established mass production that has reduced failure rates to extrordinarily low levels. I'd say the odds of a successful space launch would be very good. And they will have no problems cranking out space capable rockets on a massive scale.

At any rate,

Iran Successfully Tests Satellite Carrier, Opens New Space Centre

"The Imam Khomeini National Space Center was officially inaugurated in Iran on Thursday with the successful test-launch of a homegrown satellite carrier dubbed Simorgh.

The center, home to Iran’s first fixed launch platform, administrates the development, launch, and navigation of Iranian satellite carriers.

Designed and built in compliance with international standards, the Imam Khomeini National Space Center is going to handle all space projects in the low‑Earth orbit (LEO).

Simorgh satellite carrier is capable of sending satellites weighing up to 250 kilograms into an orbit around the Earth with an altitude of 500 km.

Iran has in recent years made great headways in the space technology thanks to the efforts made by its local scientists.

The country successfully launched its first indigenous data-processing satellite, Omid (Hope), into orbit in February 2009.
