Shots fired at Virginia Tech; officer reported shot

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Shots were reported fired at Virginia Tech on Thursday morning and campus officials warned everyone to seek shelter, and local media reported one police officer was shot.

A suspect was described as a white male wearing gray sweat pants, a gray hat with a neon green brim, a maroon hoodie, and carrying a backpack.

A Virginia Tech alert said the suspect was last seen walking toward McComas Hall, which is the main gym on campus, about two blocks from Lane Stadium.

Thirty-three people, including the mentally-ill gunman, were killed on the Virginia Tech campus in April 16, 2007 in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. The massacre in a classroom building began at 9:40 a.m. when Seung-Hui Cho chained the doors and killed dozens before committing suicide.

The Virginia Tech campus is on a high alert after reports of gunshots, according to the university's web site. Campus police are reporting that the suspect is a white male in grey sweatpants, a maroon hooded sweatshirt, and a grey hat with a neon green brim.

MSNBC is reporting that a police officer and a male exchanged gushots after a traffic stop on the campus. The Collegiate Times, the campus newspaper, is reporting that one person is dead.

Television station WDBG is reporting that there is another crime scene near the Duck Pond, although the specifics about what happened there are unclear.

Tech students from Hampton Roads have begun reporting in with their reports on the unfolding events.

Virginia Tech senior Wesley Thomas said he and senior Rachel Kistler were leaving campus at about 12:50 p.m. when police cars began whizzing by.

On their way home, they passed the Cassell Coliseum parking lot, where shots were reported. Every 20 seconds, another police vehicle with sirens blaring would rush by, Thomas said.

“There were a lot of people standing in the parking lot and police were just arriving and closing off all the entrances,” he said.

He and Kistler got emergency text alerts from Virginia Tech just as they entered their home, he said.

Virginia Tech University, the site of the country's worst massacre, is on lockdown today following reports that a police officer has been shot and killed near the campus and the gunman is on the loose.

The school's website reports that a police officer has been shot and the Collegiate Times, the student newspaper that covers Virginia Tech, is reporting that the police officer is dead.

There are reports of a potential second victim.

The school is saying that the suspect is at large and students are being told, "Stay indoors. Secure in place."

Saw this when it broke. In Cathy O'brian's book, Transformation of America she identifies Blacksburg, VA as a major center forMK Ultra, trauma based mind control operations and experiments. Jim Keith, in his book engineering human consciousness also mentions it. Both books written long before the incidents of 2007 involving Cho and the most recent shooting.
