To group members,

Today I noticed that the Washington Post has an ombudsman that you can contact to point out errors

or biased/incorrect reporting for example.  So I sent him this suggestion:- that Americans are their own worst enemy, not Iran... You can send him a message at ombudsman@washpost.com

To the Washington Post Ombudsman,

I am concerned that U.S news outlets are drumming-up the war rhetoric on Iran, and lately their have been too many assumptions that Iran 'may' be creating WMD's- and that Iran is America's biggest enemy...

I would like to suggest that America, like many other nations around the World have massive amounts of national crime that is perpetrated by citizens against their own people. Think of all the murders, serious assaults, robberies, rapes and sexual exploitation rings that operate around the World. In America there are far more crimes committed than the whole World put together...
Is that the fault of Iran or any other nation?  No.  The fault lies squarely in the hands of the perpetrators, who know quite well that their own crimes hurt their own fellow citizens, and as a result the legal system and jails cost the American taxpayers a great deal each year.

To what capacity could any country attack America?  It is highly doubtful that terrorists could break the nation of America by one or two terror attacks each decade. It is more likely that public opinion and the media are bombarded with reports of national crimes like murder and robbery on a daily basis that leads to the apprehensive and paranoid questioning of the public and media, and most Americans are armed with a handgun because of the fear that national/citizen criminals have brought to American life.
It is then easy for the media to furthur play on that paranoia by creating the theories of Iran's 'possible' attack plans or WMD capability, and people temporarily forget that criminals in their own country pose a far,far greater threat than any nation- even if you added all nations up together, there would not be even 1 percent of danger to America compared with the crimes committed by Americans against other Americans.

Hence, Americans are their own worst enemy.  It's the same here in Britain- the British are their own worst enemy.
Even in Iran itself- there are opposition groups fighting each other who pose more threat to other Iranians than any other nation, and so it is not a good idea to ratchet-up paranoia about Iran when we really have to focus on our own nations and the problems we have to stamp out to make our nations that much better and more positive to live in.

What is your opinion?
