The Dutch government has collapsed over disagreements within the governing coalition on extending troop deployments in Afghanistan.

The Dutch government has collapsed over disagreements within the governing coalition on extending troop deployments in Afghanistan.

After marathon talks, Christian Democratic Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende announced that the Labour Party was quitting the government.

Mr Balkenende has been considering a Nato request for Dutch forces to stay in Afghanistan beyond 2010.

But Labour, the second-largest coalition party, has opposed the move.

Just under 2,000 Dutch service personnel have been serving in the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan since 2006, with 21 killed.

Their deployment has already been extended once.

“ Where there is no trust, it is difficult to work together ”
Jan Peter Balkenende

The troops should have returned home in 2008, but they stayed on because no other Nato nation offered replacements.

The commitment is now due to end in August 2010.

The Dutch parliament voted in October 2009 that it must definitely stop by then, although the government has yet to endorse that vote.

The finance minister and leader of the Labour Party, Wouter Bos, demanded an immediate ruling from Mr Balkenende.

Nato priority

The collapse of the government was announced after a 16-hour cabinet meeting.

The prime minister said there was no common ground between the parties.

"Where there is no trust, it is difficult to work together. There is no good path to allow this cabinet to go further," he said.

The BBC's Geraldine Coughlan in The Hague says an early election is now expected to take place later in the year.

The launch in 2001 of Nato's International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) for Afghanistan was the organisation's first and largest ground operation outside Europe.

Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said six months ago when he began his job that his priority was the war in Afghanistan.

As of June 2009, Isaf had more than 61,000 personnel from 42 different countries including the US, Canada, European countries, Australia, Jordan and New Zealand.

The US provides the bulk of foreign forces in Afghanistan, and President Barack Obama has announced an extra 30,000 American troops for Afghanistan.

The Pentagon has said the next 18 months could prove crucial for the international mission in Afghanistan, after more than eight years of efforts to stabilise the country.

Afghanistan remains a deadly place for foreign forces.

Suicide attacks on Afghan civilians and roadside bomb strikes on international troops are common, with the Taliban strongly resurgent in many areas of the country.

I wish that would happen here. Our government grows in the face of war.
Heyeeee....... Jeff- where you beenhidin' or is it just me???

anyway, I'm not so sure the word "grows" articulates what our government is doing despite the war.. that is since "we the people" are suppose to be the government but I thoroughly agree with your sentiments. This nonsense can't go on much longer with impunity for the US. China, Russia, and others of their like minds know full well that IF NATO/Coalition Forces of "the West" were to win in Afghanistan that would amount to an imperialistic disaster for the rest of the world - and in their minds, that can't and even so much WON"T happen. I think 50K more troops 20k moreadded to the already 30K soonto be there) is going to be the breaking point, and that number may come sooner then we realize.

Where are we getting the money for this crazy assclownhat war??? Treasuries??? Bonds??? more toxic debts??? what's left of the real estate market???

In the mean time, those who have money and are a little closer to the key holes and inner walls of TPTB are literally scrambling like squirrels in the fall, that is according to Jesse Ventura, yeah Earth Changes are on the menu, but the Economic and Geo-political changes are certainly not discounted by them. They won't nuke Affy cuz that would ruin the Poppy Crops potential, and nobody has beaten Affy yet... so lets see....
1. Prepare and stock bunkers

2. Fight in Afganhistan until all Governments aligned with NATO collapse

3. Run and hide in Bunkers

4. Let Russia and China invade US

5. Let the little people fight Russia and China, and kill each other too

6. Let Israel deal with the Middle East with some support from allied forces

7. After the smoke clears come out of Bunkers and bring order and the infrastructure back online

8. Cut Russia and China in on the New World Order by giving them Canda, Mexico, US and south America down to the Panama Canal.(we'll get it back... we always do...)

5. Break for Lunch

6. Catch 9 holes of golf

7. Take Nap
Uh after thought: what does this mean for the Dutch? Heroin and Hash are big money in Holland... VERY BIG MONEY even without a war those products are a big piece of their economy, which causes me to question whatthehell are the Dutch in the fight for? Something's rotten in Denmark... again?

Ah... the Bulldog Saloon... boy that's a day I won't forget!
Hav en't you heard? They have been discussing getting rid of the coffee shops, especially since the Lisbon Treaty has been passed. I know that many have already been closed down.

What do you mean by what the Dutch are in the fight for? I think they are there because the NATO wishes them to be there... its a contractual thing, sort of, but it seems the countries do have an option to "opt out", but I wonder what kind of pressure NATO will impose.
Any bets there is a KOSHERzionist connection here? NUTO to has no business being in Afghastian PERIOD!
P.S.
Untold history of the Dutch, Most of the slave trade brought to the Americas was by the dutch and get this run by the Jews.
Another point of interest--Major Dutch airport }srael uses as weapons transfer, even the government police are not allowed to inspect in and out }sreal planes.
Remember folks--America self inflicted itself on 911 with the help of }srael.
:^/
Yeah, that really shocked me, when I first read about this. They have had this little agreement since the 1972 Olympic incident, so was that also staged by Mossad? And do you remember the plane crash of the Israeli plane in Amsterdam back in the 90's it was? Where the plane crashed in a residential area and people and animals were dying by the dozens and hundreds have been sick ever since, and the Dutch Government denies that there were any chemicals on the plane, but with so many fatalities, and hundreds still sick, I beg to differ.
I was so ecstatic, when I heard this news!! I do hope that other countries will follow their suit, and start really rethinking keeping their troops where they should not be. They are all occupationists and are only seen as the agressors, and everyone knows, that these countries would not stand such an action in their own countries, so its really long overdue, that troops start pulling out for good.
Time will tell. I think we're facing nuclear war. Again, time will tell.
