Alrighty, I finished up the lyrics to my bands latest song. I may be tweeking some things here and there as the song progresses but here's the rough version for now.
Igniting Love
As the time, keeps ticking away
More lonely souls, closer to the grave
Their heartbeat, loosing time
Without rhythm, no beat, lost inside
Where is the love you once held?
Is it locked away somewhere on a shelf?
Where is your light that once lit up a room?
Don’t let the darkness consume you
Rise above… yourself and
Don’t you slip away
Don’t lose the fire
That flickers within
Ignite the love
Before you slip away
Resonate, on loves embrace
Heal your soul, with a smiling face
Lend a hand and feel the love
Find yourself, the heaven you dream of
Where is the love you once held?
Is it locked away somewhere on a shelf?
Where is your light that once lit up a room?
Don’t let the darkness consume you
Rise above… yourself and
Don’t you slip away
Don’t lose the fire
That flickers within
Ignite the love
Before you slip away
Unlock the doors, to your soul
Deep inside, a treasure trove
The mysteries are, unraveling
You are connected to... everything
Where is the love you once held?
Is it locked away somewhere on a shelf?
Where is your light that once lit up a room?
Don’t let the darkness consume you
Rise above… yourself and
Don’t you slip away
Don’t lose the fire
That flickers within
Ignite the love
Before you slip away

This song asks some pertinent questions. Many times I have wondered what happens to love and why does it fade away? And can it be ignited again?
Excellent Tara, I can't wait to hear it.
Thanks Nikki! These lyrics were really inspired by the recent death of Whitney Houston. Her death really threw me for a loop and of course it starts making you think of your own mortality. Whitney Houston's death was really related more to losing herself and her love of self more than the drugs themselves. They say that drugs and alcohol abuse are only symptoms of much more deep seeded issues inside. Without love we are lost and no matter what we do in the truth movement doesn't mean a damn if we haven't even come to terms with ourselves. How can we fix the world when we haven't even started fixing ourselves first? Love really is the answer.
Tara, when Whitney got involved with Bobby Brown it was predicted that he would ruin her life. We saw her change almost overnight from an innocent choir girl to a drugged out party girl and it was the beginning of the end for her. I remember this vividly because I was preggers at the same time as Whitney and her daughter is only 3 weeks older than mine. I feel her lack of love for herself came from her deep insecurities. Why she became involved with him is baffling and he's certainly not eye candy either. Maybe it's the old cliche about church girls being attracted to bad boys. Obviously, he wanted to hitch himself to her rising star but he could never reach her level of fame and he became a serial cheater. If she had loved herself, she would have dumped him the first time he screwed up and she would never have done things to damage her voice. It's hard to imagine why someone with such a gift would jeopardize it and then refuse the surgery that might have restored it. Brown probably enjoyed watching her go down. Even at her funeral yesterday he wasn't happy with the seating arrangements so he left. This jerk actually thought her funeral was about him.
Nikki, I hear what you are saying and I agree to an extent. To me, we all make choices in life both good and bad. In Whitney’s case, the choice to hook up with Bobby Brown was one of the most irresponsible choices she ever did make and in many ways led to her downward spiral. Even though Bobby Brown could never claim husband of the year and was definitely leeching off the success of Whitney, he in no way should be held responsible for Whitney Houston’s demise. She alone out of insecurities made bad choices for herself. No one holds a gun to somebody’s head and forces them to drug and abuse themselves. We make the choice to do it to ourselves. And we all have the capability to rise above our circumstances and rekindle the original fire that we once held deep inside ourselves. Unfortunately, even after she had left Bobby, she was still on a self destructive mission which led to her untimely death.
I guess it goes without saying that many performing artists struggle with some kind of baggage or insecurity. Even I have struggled many years with my own personal insecurities. When you put yourself out there, heart and soul…. you are vulnerable. And in this vulnerability, many thieves in the night will try to steal your thunder and take a piece of your soul. That is where inner strength and love comes in. No thief will ever take anything from you that you already own yourself…. love. Once again…. love both inside and out is the only answer.
These are beautiful lyrics Tara, and I wonder the same thing that Nikki has just said. Do you want to ignite the love or the love of a rekindling of an old flame Nikki, which did you mean? And if it is neither then would you want a new flame to light up the love in your life and I'm not being personal, just trying to understand more from both of you really. I think you both know my love for our language spoken. And to be defensive about it, that is all that I mean,I am not trying to start anything,no shit! So thank you to both, and to tell you Tara how such good words you have written. You are my superstar and good sister Tara, you shine your light all around. I don't think that I have told you lately, how much I adore you and love you,so there you are star. Just keep shining like that, because all our lives are going to come to fruition. See you!
Absolutely marvelous! I just sang it out loud with my own made up melody and the words just flowed like a river of love ~really beautiful just like you Tara.. :) ps: i didn't read any of the comments ..my feeling was one of the fury of life and we all have something to give ~ never give up and if its the last thing you do in life Ignite love before you go.. that is what it made me feel~~ ;)
Thanks ladies :) I appreciate the kind words! Here's a little vid from my bands first real performance of the song live this past weekend. I unfortunately forgot the last verse so made one up on the spot (the beauty of owning the lyrics to the song ;) And.... there is a bit of slicing and dicing being talked about before the song ever begins, lol. Our keyboard and bass player were having a little bit of fun. I sure do love my band mates, especially that hunky hans looking guitar player ;)
This is my favorite part:
Unlock the doors, to your soul
Deep inside, a treasure trove
The mysteries are, unraveling
You are connected to... everything
You sang it way different than i did in my living room with made up melody lol ....That was awesome !! Thanks for the private screening ... Woot Woot .. you rock sista !!
