Secretary of State Kerry, Secretary of Defense Hagel and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dempsey testified about the Obama administration’s request for authorization for the use of force in Syria in response to chemical weapons attacks on civilians. They also spoke about a Russian proposal which would have Syria put its chemical weapons arsenal under international control and the need to maintain a credible threat of action in order to avoid delaying tactics should such an agreement be implemented. They also focused on the importance of upholding the international ban on chemical weapons use and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
