CANNABIS CULTURE - Thousands of marijuana smokers will celebrate Canada's July 1 birthday when Cannabis Day 2013 overtakes the grounds of the Vancouver Art Gallery for a huge session.
Organizers expect another mammoth crowd and are busy putting together a stage show featuring activist speakers, live bands, contests, weed give-aways and more.
Though the event's primary focus is protesting the prohibition of marijuana, Cannabis Day at the Art Gallery, like Vancouver's 4/20 on April 20, features the city's unique open-sales marijuana farmers market, where ever-increasing numbers of vendors set up shop and sell a rainbow selection of marijuana strains, extracts, and infused baked goods. See a map of vendor booth spaces and book your's today.
Cannabis Day has modest roots, evolving from from a small gathering of persistent potheads in the 1970s into a huge festival attended by 5,000 - 10,000 marijuana-lovers old and young, activists, vendors, and casual passer-bys and observers.
Organizers have launched a CannabisDay.ca website showcasing the history of the event in photos and videos.
