PITTSBURGH -- Caroline Kennedy and Sen. Bob Casey were just a few of the big names at the AFL-CIO convention on Monday, but on Tuesday, President Barack Obama will address the convention.
To prepare for the president’s appearance, Steward Acuff of the AFL-CIO said, “Our security team will work with the Secret Service , but this is something we are experienced at doing. We know where the line is between who does what.”
AFL-CIO security personnel manned the entrances to the ballroom checking credentials at the door.
Having thousands of visitors at the convention center and important people speaking to the group provided a chance to check out security measures for the G-20 which is just days away.
In the convention center parking garage, signs are posted alerting drivers to remove all vehicles from the garage by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
While labor unions are focused on the convention this week, they are also preparing for the G-20 and a rally at Point State Park.
Jack Shea of the Allegheny County Labor Council said, “I want to make sure that everyone we are surrounding ourselves with have issues, have principles and want to talk about them, but we want nothing to happen to our city, We want our city to be better than it was when they leave.”
