D.C. residents can apply for pot card

The District's Department of Health has released the patient application form for a medical marijuana card.

Qualified applicants who also have a doctor's recommendation can then legally go to the soon-to-open dispensaries in the city.

"D.C.'s medical marijuana program is for people with serious illnesses," says Scott Morgan, a spokesman for Capital City Care.

"This opportunity means a great deal to them. It's not like we're opening a new café down the street," he says.

Capital City Care is the first licensed dispensary in the District. Morgan says it will be ready to open whenever applicants receive their medical marijuana card.

"When you factor in the time it takes patients to prepare their application and the time it takes to mail it back and forth, we could be open in the next two weeks potentially," Morgan says.

To registration fee for the medical marijuana card costs $100.
