I didn't think you were suggesting censorship, but just giving your opinion. I just wanted to give you my own opinion on why I believe it is indeed appropriate.

But then again, I never thought Bush would get elected to a second term in office so what do I know;)

I understand that pictures of dead children upset many people as well it should. You may also surmise that I added the picture to the article for shock value and you would be right on the money. However, I believe that we should be shocked and reminded on a daily basis of the horrors being committed in our names. Would you prefer that we fall sleepily back into our personal comfort zones and just ignore it?

Then again you may believe that it is innapropriate to post such pictures on the internet where young children may see them. On this subject I would first of all say that is the responsibility of parents to monitor their children's internet use, not mine, and this particular website is not the place for children. Certain people have complained of this before and I offered to help create a kids version of 12.160 but apparantly they wanted to complain rather than work at building a kid friendly version of the site. Complaining is obviously easier than doing something proactive.

Beyond that let me tell you that I survived seeing plenty when I was a child. Some of my earliest memories are of watching the Vietnam War on television. I also remember as if it were yesterday, a certain Time Magazine cover that featured a GI carrying the bullet riddled body of a ten or twelve year old Vietnames girl. The image is still so vivid in my mind that I can almost count the bullet holes. I believe there were five. I also vividly remember a Time article that included the picture of a Japanese soldiers dessicated head impaled on the radio antenna of a US tank during WWII

Rather than being desensitized to violence I believe these vivid images made me the kind of person that cannot just sit idly by and whistle in the dark.

People want to protect their children and that's only natural but perhaps if every child were exposed at least once to the horrific images that come out of wars perhaps future generations would be more careful in working to avert or end them.
