crowded and we need to promote death.”
Asked by host Neil deGrasse Tyson what he thought about the death penalty and abortion, Maher re-affirmed his support for both, remarking, “The Pope is consistently pro-life, I am consistently pro-death.”
Expressing how he was pro-death penalty, Maher said, “my motto is let’s kill the right people.”
“I’m pro-choice, I’m for assisted suicide, I’m for regular suicide, I’m for whatever gets the freeway moving – that’s what I’m for,” said Maher, adding,
“It’s too crowded, the planet is too crowded and we need to promote death.” Explaining how he knew many people who felt the same, Maher went on to say that “people who’ve earned it” deserved to die, remarking, “kill the right people.”
The HBO host emphasized how he disagreed with the notion that all life is precious, referring to an argument made by Rick Santorum that prenatal testing should not be covered by the government because it encourages people to have abortions.
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that,” said Maher, expressing his support for abortion and noting, “It’s not that hard to create life, it’s teeming everywhere, it’s something a dog can do.”
Maher’s eugenicist views are shared by many liberals and others who consider themselves to be part of the elite.

Bill Maher confronted panelist Cornel West about his criticism of President Obama as a war criminal. West stood by that assertio
trusting their justice system or those running it is one he proved last night unwilling to jump. Discussing the topic of Staff Sgt. Robert Bales on the online-only “Overtime” segment, Glenn Greenwald suggested Americans should allow Afghans a role in Bales’ punishment, to which Maher scoffed, “What is the compromise, we’re going to plea bargain down from stoning to death?”

Greenwald was answering whether he believed the trial should be held in Afghanistan, which he seemed to believe was the moral choice. Noting that he had written a piece on the killings, Greenwald remarked that the Afghans were accusing several soldiers, not just one, of the shootings, and that it was common courtesy to let them in on the proceedings:
“When you invade a country and you occupy it for ten years and you kill their civilians, making them extremely hateful and angry towards you, the least you can do when someone goes on a major shooting rampage is allow them to participate in the investigation and be a part of the punishment of those people.”
“Afghan punishment?” Maher replied, “I mean, come on.” Greenwald clarified that he still wanted the American military to control the proceedings, just not exclusively. Maher didn’t buy it. “What is the compromise, we’re going to plea bargain down from stoning to death?”

f we jumped into the way-back machine and told you ten years ago that Stewart would be one of the most important voices in the news world, that the Daily Show would win an award for journalism, that Comedy Central was now considered a legitimate source for quality programming, you'd say, "No way I believe that about Comedy Central!"
But after you got past that you'd probably also be surprised by Stewart. After all, Jon looked set for the Richard Jeni career path until Craig Kilborn jumped off the Daily Show in a desperate attempt to kill his own career. Now Stewart's probably the best known former stand-up since Jerry Seinfeld. With the possibility of finishing with an even more impressive resume.
And that's what really gets our goat (for two zuzim, no less). It's entirely possible that this is merely the beginning and there are even greater things to come from Jon Stewart. He's funny, influential, apparently a real mensch, and even if he quit tomorrow he'd have made a huge mark on entertainment and the world it entertains.
What more is there to say, really?

Bill Maher
January 20, 1956 —We could talk about Bill Maher the comedian. About "Politically Incorrect", and "Real Time with Bill Maher", and the new "Religulous" film he has out.
Or we could talk about Bill Maher the half-Jew. About how he was raised Catholic, and did not find out about his roots until he was a teenager. Perhaps this is why he didn't develop such a hatred for Judaism, compared to the one he harbors for Catholicism.
His mother, Julie Maher (née Berman), was a nurse (Berman - Jewish Ashkenazic)…
