A former CIA agent who is facing extradition to Italy to face jail time for her role in the 2003 kidnapping of a Muslim cleric suspected of terrorism is hoping President-elect Donald Trump will save her.
Sabrina De Sousa, 60, is scheduled to be extradited Tuesday from Portugal — where the American/Portuguese dual citizen lives — to Italy, where she was convicted in absentia for participating in a Bush-era “rendition” of a terror suspect.
When asked during an interview on “Fox News Monday” about Trump possibly protecting her from a four-year sentence, she said, “I’m a little bit optimistic . . . One of the things that the president-elect can do is to prevent US intelligence officers from being convicted by foreign courts.”
The CIA operative claims she was skiing in the Alps when cleric Abu Omar was snatched off a Milan street and stuffed into a van before being carted off to Egypt, where he was tortured.
De Sousa said she played only a small role at the beginning of the operation and is being used a scapegoat for post-9/11 war-on-terror programs.
