SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) --
A Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend march demonstrating against the deaths of unarmed black men and other police violence is heading toward an Oakland police substation in East Oakland Saturday night, according to policeThe group gathered outside Oakland's Fruitvale BART station at 3 p.m. before beginning their march about 4:30 p.m..
The marchers are seeking justice for Mike Brown, the teenager shot and killed in Ferguson, Missouri, and Eric Garner, killed in a police chokehold in New York. Both deaths occurred last year, according to organizers.
Police said around 5 p.m. a crowd of about 100 were on their way to the substation at 2651 73rd Ave. Around 5:30 p.m., police said the group had stopped at Fortune Way and 62nd Avenue.

Police advised that traffic might be affected along the march route.
The march is part of a series of protests and rallies held this holiday weekend throughout the Bay Area and beyond in honor of the birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King was assassinated in 1968.
So far this rally has been peaceful.
