GOP presidential contender Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) holds a rally with his "Veterans for Ron Paul" coalition highlighting issues of importance to servicemembers.
According to his website, active-duty military personnel contributed more money to Rep. Paul's campaign than to those of all the other Republican presidential candidates combined. During the 1960s, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight surgeon.
In an op-ed in the Des Moines Register, the candidate said "few issues are more distressing than the inadequate treatment our veterans receive," and advocated eliminating the so-called "disabled veterans tax." He promised he'd address the problem of military suicides and increasing health care costs for veterans if elected.
The latest Iowa polls show Rep. Paul either leading or neck-and-neck with Mitt Romney heading into next Tuesday's caucus.

Backing veterans is a must Written by America cannot remain strong if our servicemen and women have reason to doubt that our nation will not honor the promises it made to them when they enlisted. My campaign is holding a Salute Our Veterans Rally today in Des Moines. I hope this rally will help drive that point home. Of all our government’s shortcomings, few issues are more distressing than the inadequate treatment our veterans receive. I’m a veteran myself, having served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force during the turbulent 1960s. So, unlike some of my “armchair general” opponents, I have a firsthand understanding of our veterans’ needs. I have supported numerous pieces of legislation in Congress to better look out for our veterans, and I am proud to have helped many veterans in my district finally receive the medals and benefits they fought hard to earn. I intend to use the bully pulpit as president to advocate even more strongly for their issues. Our veterans fought hard for us, so we should fight hard for them. http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20111228/OPINION01/3122800...

Is it me or did the good Dr seem a little uncomfortable in a room full of Masons?
I was so glad to come across this tonight, and saw a good portion of his speech. In the past few days, there have been what I consider threats by some of the career mob-bosses inside the Republican party. MSNBC and CNN have made some really dirty comments. They recognize how much clout Ron Paul really has with voters.--But, at the same time, they are conspiring to disregard his election if he does win.
I think this kind of attitude needs to get hammered, and these guys spewin'-out this shit need their asses kicked. I really do hope Ron Paul not only wins Iowa, but Ohio, New-York, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri and alot of other states.--And if he does succeed in winning the 2012 election, I hope he will have alot of high-security to protect his butt from all the trigger-happies who will bow to MONEY, to get rid of a REAL PRESIDENT.
Ron Paul: "NDAA? You guys know about that? We are a healthy society and the Internet is working!"
mic checked by 2 occupiers.
Ron Paul : "Freedom of speech, ain't it great!"
