Michigan Bomb Threat Marks 7th Attack on GOP Offices in October
GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Law enforcement is investigating after someone threatened to blow up the Grand Traverse County Republican Headquarters.
Deputies say it happened around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at the GOP headquarters in Cherryland Mall.
Employees say the suspect had a sign that said "Trump is Satan" and started going off on a rant about Republicans.
When he was asked to leave, employees say he made a statement about blowing the place up and took off.
Investigators brought in a bomb sniffing dog as a precautionary measure and deemed the place safe just before 5:00 p.m.
The Grand Traverse County GOP Party Chair says although it doesn't seem like this threat was serious, you just can't take a chance.
"It won’t deter us, and when our office is clear we'll be right back in there to get to work," said GOP Party Chair John Roth. "But you have to take a pause for a moment, rhetoric on all sides have gone too hot, it needs to calm down.”
Nobody was hurt and no other stores were evacuated.
Deputies are still searching for the man who made the threat, and say he could face charges.
Employees describe the suspect as a white man possibly in his 60's who was wearing a cowboy hat and Carhartt jacket.
The Grand Traverse County GOP Party Headquarters is expected to be back open Thursday morning.
