COLUMBUS (Chris Vanocur) -- With a marijuana initiative almost certain to be on Ohio's November ballot, some at the Statehouse seem to be rising up in opposition.
In fact, the man behind Ohio's marijuana ballot measure is trading verbal shots with one of the state's top-elected officials.
Ian James is the executive director of ResponsibleOhio. This is the group trying to get that marijuana legalization measure on the ballot. But some legislators are now talking about, perhaps, putting a competing, cannabis killing initiative on the same ballot.
So, Thursday, James testified before the state’s Constitutional Modernization Commission. He asked the commission to let Ohio voters decide whether medical and recreational pot should be legal here. Later, James described the meeting as a "little tough."
But, State Auditor Dave Yost -- who was at the same meeting -- describes it differently. Yost does not appear to be a fan of either the marijuana ballot measure, or Ian James.
He told reporters, "Obviously, from what we just heard from Mr. James, he's a big fan of the movie that was out a few years ago called "Say Anything."
