Google Skynet transparency report reveals a 70% rise in takedown requests from US government or police

According to the report, Google separately declined orders by other police authorities to remove videos that allegedly defamed law enforcement officials.

The demands formed part of a 70% rise in takedown requests from the US government or police, and were revealed as part of an effort to highlight online censorship around the world.

Figures revealed for the first time show that the US demanded private information about more than 11,000 Google users between January and June this year, almost equal to the number of requests made by 25 other developed countries, including the UK and Russia.

How Google avoided paying £218m in tax: Internet giant's cash-savin...

Google was yesterday accused of leaving British taxpayers out of pocket after avoiding more than £200million of tax.

The internet giant, which has a history of minimising its contribution to the nation’s coffers, faces a fresh backlash over its financial affairs.

Company accounts show that last year Google raked in £2.6billion in revenues from its UK operations, which are officially based in Ireland. But the group admitted it paid only £6million to the Exchequer during 2011.

How a Lone Grad Student Scooped the Government and What it Means fo...

A privacy official in Germany forced Google to hand over the hard drives of cars equipped with 360-degree digital cameras that were taking pictures for its Street View program. The Germans discovered that Google wasn't just shooting photos: The cars downloaded a panoply of sensitive data, including emails and passwords, from open Wi-Fi networks. Google had secretly done the same in the United States, but the FTC, as well as the Federal Communications Commission, which oversees broadcast issues, had no idea until the Germans figured it out.

Google Moves to Control Large Sections of the Internet Through New Web Domain Suffixes

Google, a company that already controls much of the internet and has a long history (NSA connections aplenty) of recording and tracking users throughout the internet has applied to control 101 different web domain suffixes including .mom, .kid, .book, and many more.

This would enable Google to literally control large sections of internet traffic, further putting control of the internet into the hands of the internet search engine giant.

An article in the Washington Post confirmed that Google, and Amazon to a smaller extent, are actively seeking to control the once free internet.http://theintelhub.com/2012/06/14/google-moves-to-control-large-sec...

Google Testing Experimental Devices In Hundreds Of Employees’ Homes

02-08-2012  •  www.seattle.cbslocal.com

SEATTLE (CBS Seattle) — Google is testing 252 “mystery” devices in its employees’ homes, but what the device is, nobody outside of Google knows.

Google recently applied for an experimental license with the Federal Communications Commission for an unnamed entertainment device.

The device is still early in development as testing is set to see if the device works properly and to “reveal real world engineering issues and reliability of networks.”

One possibility that was suggested was the device is related to the Android@home framework, where Google promises to allow users to control appliances such as lights and alarm clocks through an Android device.
