Hey Kea,

As I have mentioned many times I am from a family of coal miners (why I have no tolerance for whiney fkn  whiney negroes that had to work picking cotton in the SUNSHINE-sounds easy compared to life in a 40in.(that's 3 1/2 feet ) high coal mine) and I love the smell of good burning coal plus the heat it gives off plus you can bank a coal fire to still be hot a day later where wood is about 8 hours tops if you are lucky but it's so damn dirty is it's main drawback  is in a week there is residue/coaldust everywhere.

I gave up trying to chop wood for the fireplace when I found the best way to ease my sore muscles in doing so was to buy coal instead. We were told all coal had been banned of cause but that turned out be be a lie to pamper the greenies in an out of sight out of mind way. So off to the big hidden warehouses we go now that are like wholesale merchants where it's cheap in larger amounts. I also buy bags of pinecones from a local chap who gathers them up and sells to neighbours in the area.

I've got enough firewood to heat the house for the coming winter. Out of the domestic wood birch has the most energy.

When I used to burn wood it would take 7-10 cords of wood and the thing is all wood burns different so there is a lot to know as far as what wood to burn in the fall, the wood that burns the hottest, easiest to light, best to bank overnight, dry wood takes a year etc. I never cut live trees and was content to search for and find natural fallen trees, yes it takes a little more effort but why cut a viable living tree if you don't have to. anyway a cord of wood is4ft high 4ft wide and 8 ft long so in one pile 10 cords is 40ft high 40ft wide and 80 ft long which is a bunch of wood to cut haul split stack and haul into the house all winter but damn I was in shape, today I'm old and enjoying life on natural gas as I just happen to have it on my property.
