Seems impossible. Always within half a degree of true north, for thousands of years. Then another star, also over a quadrillion miles away, takes it's place and remains aligned so for millenia?!?!

cheeki - Their main proof for the rotation of the Earth is the "Foucalt pendulum", which is just a pendulum set swinging. It swings a slightly different direction every time. It's just that, more often than not when you start it, it only swings back and forth in a straight line. Kind of like the moon affecting the tides, 352 quintillion gallons of water - and nothing else.

And as far as the Earth being a ball, sometimes you can see the Chicago skyline from across Lake Michigan, 60 miles away, pretty much down to street level. As one can see the Statue of Liberty from a similar distance, on a clear day with still seas. There's also a salt flat in south America, 100 miles across, and with a telescope, you can see all the way across. If Earth were a ball of the diameter we are told, you wouldn't be able to see any of these. They would be over the edge of the curvature.

I don't know. I think there's a third answer that we can't wrap our heads around yet. And I don't mean by way of mainstream astrophysics. It's like a received television broadcast with a maximum power of 4 kW from 238,000 miles away, through the Van Allen Belts, or tens of thousands of complex organic chemical reactions occurring in a microscopic space, in just the right order, to create the first cell, by random chance. I just can't believe in any of that.

That's way to advanced for their understanding Chris, they've no concept of space and time. The up coming generation have to consult their phone just for the normal time, because they don't  understand what a watch is or how it works. Could you see them understanding anything from a wider angle ? No.

Ask them to prove the earth is a ball spinning 1000 miles an hour and traveling through space 680k miles.

Galactic year, the time it takes our solar system to make a full round around the center of the Milky Way galaxy is about 240 million years, with estimates varying between 200 and 250 MY.

The problem with this topic is Say one word about Flat Earth and you become a delusional lost cause. From that point on you'll need to Prove every single word you ever utter again about Anything, or everything you mention from that moment on will Not be believed at all. I know this for a fact because I talked about it once.

Chris - Yes, when the Spanish Inquisition was pouring hot lead down people's throats a la Constantine, they put Copernicus under... house arrest, lol.

For thousands years the earth has been flat. Only for last 500 has been a ball. Thanks to a Jesuit Copernicus.
