One of the most outrageous trespasses against the Constitution by SCOTUS was a case involving a man who grew and ate his own grain. By legal gymnastics, they came to a decision that this somehow affected interstate commerce, putting his activities under the purview of the federal government. They were very proud of this underhandedness. More evidence you can't work within the system. It's the same as everywhere, witness the repeated Greek elections. They elected leaders who said they wouldn't put moneylenders ahead of the people, and every time, they did a 180. And Brexit, the people will never get what they voted for. Follow the rules, as conservatives insist we must, and voila! They will change the rules.
