It's my understanding that plastic never fully degrades and that it degrades into ever smaller molecular structures of, well, plastic. The Pacific and Atlantic gyres are an example of the devastating effects of plastic. Because it degrades into such small particles it's mistaken by fish for being algae and consumed, resulting in high death rates for the fish. It is also destroying ocean eco-systems in other ways.
Another controversial subject based on molecular changes that occur with proteins submitted to microwaves. Cancer causing compounds are formed but try telling that to almost any human and you're met with denial, but not an argument based on facts.
Besides which plastic leaches Bisphenol-A into the food it comes in contact with and so do canned products lined with Bisphenol-A and Bisphenol-A is an endocrine disruptor responsible for feminizing the population.
If man continues to use plastic over many 100s of years we will become unable to reproduce. We see it in feminized fish and frogs who've been contaminated with Bisphenol=A and plastic compound remnants.
