A Degree of Charm

Planet earth has become a very strange place

The destination of many creatures from time and space

The scene of many a life and death chase

Better bring a gun just in case,

Many will not survive I fear

We're being called to the "End Times" drawing near

The fools refuse to wake up though it's crystal clear

Where even the heroes are spit upon with a sneer,

Whatever happened to self-respect and decency?

It seems we’re all on the wrong frequency

I just wanted to find a love with sincerity

Forgive me for seeking with some clarity,

I’m a writer a man of a different age

I’m among attention deficit disordered who can’t turn a page

Those with no justification are in a rage

While the fools are allowed the world’s stage,

The orders for us are to take this hill

Some of my comrades already dead taking the pill

I remember the cries of the dying so shrill

Only in battle shall we have the right to kill,

If you open your eyes you’ll quickly see

There are things that were never meant to be

From sea monsters in a clear blue sea

To blood thirsty leaders appointed by decree,

Where did they come from you might ask

Deciphering the unknown, an unenviable task

But the fools would have you dependent on your mask

Doctor Jekyll drank from a mysterious flask,

There are no more volunteers left for “No Man’s Land”

It seems it didn’t quite go as the generals planned

It’s the whistleblower more likely to get canned

It crashed in New Mexico’s high desert sands,

Here I am the king of exile

Hard pressed to find a reason to smile

Part of me died along the miracle mile

Find my statistics in a forbidden file,

The test pilot who plowed the farm

Didn’t mean to do anyone any harm

As a matter of fact he had a degree of charm
